We left our hotel to go to Arles where we did a walking tour of where Van Gogh lived and painted. Several stops showed easels of what he painted there. Then we headed to Pont du Gard a Roman aqueduct.

 We woke up at 5 to get to our flight and still had a problem with the flight when we got there at 6 am. We finally got it straightened out. Our flight is going to Newark instead of Munich and then on to Houston.

  Sunday, May 22 We woke only to realize Randy’s phone had died. Nothing on the screen after a night of being charged. Since our breakfast place was closed on Sunday, we headed toward Aix en Provence. Low and behold we found another place for breakfast along the way pretty quickly. In Aix en Provence, Cezanne lived and painted. He was ignored at the time, but now his presence is milked for all its worth for tourism.  We arrived at Gere Parking Center at 11:05. Couldn’t get the ticket to dispense. At the end we got free parking. From there we went to the art museum where we saw a film about Paul Cezanne. There was an iron man event which made getting around difficult. It was Sunday, but I did manage to do some shopping. Cezanne’s studio was a    20 minute walk away. I’m glad we made the trek as it was good with a nice audio presentation and slideshow. On the way home we got stuck in a traffic jam for a couple of hours. You gotta love this trip .   We tromped about in Pont du Gard where an ancient world Aqueduct (first century AD) is located and still functioning. We opted for a visit to Uze which is located near the source of the spring that fed the aqueduct. Found a bit of shopping but nothing to buy.   Kayakers at the base of the aqueduct The superstitious Romans engraved a phallic symbol on this monument to protect it against the evil eye.     This engraving could have been an engineer-architect or a quarryman One of the most remarkable surviving Roman ruins  anywhere A fountain in the museum at Pont Du Gard More fountains A place to rest, relax and have ice cream!
