We started out our day with our search for an egg breakfast, which we are finding is non existent in France. We settled on a croissant and cafe—the only thing around. Ou plan de jour— a self guided D-Day beaches and battlefields tour. I’m finding that my pics are not uploading as quickly as I want them to. I have to figure out a way to get them from my iPhone to my iPad.

Grand Bunker was an actual bunker in the middle of a Normandy neighborhood that showed how life was for the soldiers

Of course Randy had to go to the observation tower.

The range finder gave you a view of the outside

Water pump—No bottled water here!

The Pegasus Bridge

The bridge was strategically needed by both the Germans and the US Allies. It was formerly the Beonouville bridge namedafter the neighboring village. It got the name Pegasis after the British unit that captured it.

A place to urinate out of the glider, oh my!

A record book and a bit of Plein Air!

These Aluminum Foil Strips were thrown out of the  gliders to  jam  German radar

These maps were made out of silk for ease of transport as they could be rolled up into a small ball. They didn’t wrinkle and water had no effect on them like paper maps. They also used magnetized trouser buttons with an escape compass.

Communication was done with homing pigeons. Here is one with his own parachute.

Churchill didn’t like 24 hour time. His documents were edited to 12-hr time before he received them!

Women knitted theses undergarments for the soldiers to keep them cooler.

The bridge is raise periodically when a boat needs to go through

Longues-sur-mer

Gun emplacements There we’re about 6 of them. The first one was cracked, looking like it had been hit. The others were intact.

This Gun emplacement looks like it took some hits

This one looks better. There were more, but  if you’ve seen one gun emplacement you’ve seen them all

Juno was a museum giving the D-Day from the Canadian view. We however had hit a wall and were to tired to see it all.

A comparison between the size of France and Canada

A lovely sculpture
